“How much?!”

Background: The EVE universe are populated by five races: Jove, Caldari, Gallente, Minmatar and Amarr. Jove is pretty much extinct (aka it’s a race the you cant play as in EVE Online) Amarr use to enslave the Minmatar race and Caldari started as a faction that separated itself from the Gallente. Me myself, I’m 100% Caldari!

Story: The Clear Skies Movies is about three Caldari guys in a not so well kept Minmatar battleship called Clear Skies. John Rourke (Captain of the ship), Solomon Burk (Engineering), Charlie Fodder (Gunnery) are privateers, which means that they are not members of any Corporation but instead they fly around performing transport missions trying to get together some cash (ISK). The first film introduces the characters and follow them on a not so peaceful transport mission. In the second film the guys are getting somewhat accidentally caught up in the ongoing Empyrean Wars.

The humor in these movies are truly spot on! So is also the story, the animations and the soundtrack! I guess that people that play EVE Online love these movies the most since we know the specifics of what they talking about, but I must say that even if one doesn’t even know what EVE Online is, Clear Skies is still extremely cool and funny machinimas. I confese that I have lost track of how many times I’ve seen these movies, I even have them on my computer at work :P The guys who spend endless hours putting these movies together are truly geniuses. Awesome work! Plz don’t stop cause I cant wait to see what JR and the crew will get mixed up into in Clear Skies III.

Verdict: Of course there is no doubt about it that both Clear Skies movies are totally worthy of five Muppets each!

So tonight I saw the new Transformers movie, Revenge of the Fallen, but I must say that it unfortunately does not fully live up to it’s predecessor. This time the decepticons are hunting Sam since he suddenly have a map inside his head that will lead them to some big machine that they left on Earth the last time they where here (!). Thankfully the movie still the same fun humor which this time are supported by some new smaller crazy robots called Skids & Mudflap and of course the decepticon Wheelie. In general the Autobots have become somewhat cooler and are totally kicking decepticon ass.

The decepticons on the other hand are pathetic this time, they are whiny and fight within. The super villain Megatron suddenly have a even more evil boss… and since when can decepticons take human form? That’s just too much Terminator for me. And what’s with all the Matrix hints (the matrix key, the decepticon cocoons, Hugo Weaving as the voice of Megatron), are Bay & Spielberg having problems with coming up with new ideas? The ending of this movie is extremely Hollywood, and I must say that the movie could easily be shorten without losing any vital parts. Oh and by the way, why do guys have to hold Mikaela’s hand all the time? She is a strong female character that is as cool as ever, but when the going gets tough she needs a guy to hold her hand every time she have to run???

Some parts that I did actually like was of course the return of Agent Simmons, without him Transformers wouldn’t be the same. I also like that Bay & Spielberg finally used the concept of Transformers merging and using each others parts, something I truly missed in the first movie. Another thing that was great was the music, it was totally my kind of music with songs by Green Day & Linkin Park, nice!

Verdict: I have decided to give Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, three and a half Muppets. It has bigger explosions, bigger robots and more Megan Fox, but what else can one expect from Bay & Spielberg… it is a typical sequel, but more of everything isn’t always better!

As a response to Slaizt comment on the previous post I must admit that Hollywood movies are extremely similar and non innovative. They offer one thing and one thing only: Action! But that’s it. I would love to be able to go to the movies and see some Asian movies, however Sweden are extremely bad at showing them. I think that movies from for example Japan or Korea tend to have everything in them, not only action. One of my all time favorite Asian movie is Bichunmoo (tissues are necessary!).

ironman

Last week Mr M convinced me to watch Ironman with him. I’m not a big Robert Downey Jr. fan but since it is a Marvel movie, I decided to give it a chance. Ironman (if you don’t know it) is about this science brainiac, Tony Stark, that leads one of US largest weapons company but after a life altering event decides to do something good and become a superhero.

This movie have just the right combination of humor, science and awesome action to make me a huge fan of it. And I must admit this movie wouldn’t be as good as it is without Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark (who has a great taste in cheeseburgers by the way ;) ) Gwyneth Paltrow who plays Mr Stark/Ironman’s assistant, Pepper Potts, does a great job in embodying a modern day Miss Moneypenny. To complete the dynamic trio in Ironman I must mention the uncredited but oh so funny fire fighting robot in Stark’s lab, he is a blast! :D

Verdict: Four unexpected but unambiguous Muppets!
